Freed into Slavery

I've been thinking about the phrase freed by Christ a lot today. A lot of people say this when they become "saved", or changed by Jesus. They welcome Jesus into their lives and their lives are radically changed, almost like they are freed from their old lives. This freedom is a little different though. I see this as being freed into slavery, but a slavery that is holy and beneficial if you look at it with the right attitude. Before you invite Christ into your life, you live a life full of sin. Once you accept Christ into your life, God buys you into his family. You are not your own any more but you are Christ's (read 1 Corinthians 6:20). Although you are freed from your old lives, you are now God's property and he owns you. He dictates what you should be doing and how you should be acting. You were freed from your old lives, but you were given a new one where a holy creator has power, and you need to listen to what he says. It's like being freed into slavery, but into a holy slavery run by a good and faithful master. A master who will look out for you no matter what, who will love you no matter what, and will never give you away no matter what. It's a lifelong slavery to a God that you want to be a slave to.
